BLACK ROCK DESERT - HIGH ROCK CANYON

THINGS TO KNOW

• Most will approach this region along NV route 447, either from Cedarville to the North or Wadsworth - Nixon to the South. The first thing you will discover is that there is no Cell Phone service in this region. Be prepared, it can be a long time before help is at hand and a long walk that may take its toll.
• Groceries and gas is available at Empire (Last Call) and six miles away is Gerlach with gas, restaurant, medical, and a Post office.
• From here on be well prepared for your outing in the desert. A high clearance four-wheel drive vehicle is necessary. Carry at least one fully inflated spare tire, shovel, tow chain/strap, Compass, GPS and CB radio strongly recommended.  Fully charged satellite phones a big plus!
• Personals would be: warm clothes, sleeping bags, drinking water (min. 1 gal./person) and food for several days.
• Good maps of the area are highly recommended. The most detailed are the USGS 7.5 minute series topographic maps.
